I have more than a little concern about this –

A time like this is apt to cause spiritual drifting for the simple reason we are out of routine.

On Thursday last Pastor Davis said to me, “I feel disoriented.” I knew exactly what he was talking about. On Wednesday I was not pleasant to be around. Reason? Frustration because we were not having AWANA and Bible Study Wednesday night. That’s what should be happening on Wednesday night and it was disorienting that it was not.

Susan and I have only known pastoral work together since we were dating! Last Tuesday the ebb and flow of that life was abruptly altered. I love to come to church. I love to be here studying (which I have been doing this Saturday morning). I love to leave and go visit people. None of that is happening. It’s disorienting.

In such a setting, it will become easy to “get out of habits” that keep us in pursuit of strengthening our spiritual lives.

What can we do?

1. Read your Bible. If this isn’t your habit, here are suggestions:
Read the chapter from the Proverbs that corresponds with the day. Today I read Proverbs 21.
Read 5 Psalms that correspond with the day. Today I read Psalms 101 - 105.
2. Make good family time. A tendency is to isolate. Don’t… purposefully.
3. Make phone calls to those who might have special needs. Offer to go to the store.
Simply call them to let them know you’re thinking of them and pray with them.
Do this for our church body, and for your neighbours.
4. Remember your giving. You can give on this website by clicking “Give” on the link to your left. You can do so on your church app on your phone. Numerous people have dropped their gifts off in the church office this week. You can also mail your offering.

In this regard, this comes to mind. Some of you are going to find yourselves without income soon. We need as a church family to be extremely watchful of this and extremely quick to give aid. Our Benevolence Fund is not unlimited, but we can help some should you find yourself without income. In fact, if you will give above and beyond you regular giving to our Benevolence Fund it will be most helpful.

I’ll write more here early next week.
